Today went to the large craft market near the ocean adjacent to the Nkruma memorial. Tim picked up something for Ben, and I found us a side table and a bowl that I know I could use in our home. We went with a large group via tro tro bus. The trick of the market is to realize that you have to bargain. Also, young men will attach themselves to you in the hopes of selling something to you. Then they receive a commission from the owner for this. Always deal with the owner of the shop directly. Ironically, the covered area of the market has the poorest quality souvenirs available. I would say that this craft market has a great selection of items made from wood fashioned into masks, furniture, or sculptures.
After coming home for a break, we took a taxi to the WEB Dubois Center, located kitty corner from the US Embassy to eat at the Roots Flavours Restaurant. We ate and interviewed the owner Eric and spoke with his wife. Afterwards, we toured the compound and took a guided tour of Dubois' home. We didn't have a big day out as we wanted to make it back in time to see off our friends from California. Tim was able to use the truck to take some of their bags to the airport. I truly hope to visit with our new friends in Sacramento when we return to the states.
